Northside Hospital Cancer Institute Delivers Comprehensive Care Across Georgia
Northside Hospital Cancer Institute is one of the nation’s largest community cancer programs and the largest cancer network in Georgia. With more than 55 community cancer locations across the state, the network gives patients access to medical oncology, hematology, radiation oncology, infusion services, clinical trials and advanced cancer treatments.
Northside specialists provide care for a wide range of cancers and blood disorders. They offer advanced therapies, including chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, which modifies a patient’s immune cells to recognize and attack cancer; bispecific T-cell engagers, which help immune cells identify and attack cancer cells; and humanized conjugated monoclonal antibodies, which deliver cancer-fighting treatment directly to targeted cells.
The health system also has extensive experience in blood and marrow transplantation. Its Blood & Marrow Transplant Program is one of the largest and most comprehensive programs of its kind in the Southeast, providing autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation, including haploidentical and mismatched unrelated donor (MMUD) transplantation. The program is ranked among the nation’s best for bone marrow transplant survival outcomes and is the only center in the country to have exceeded national survival benchmarks for allogeneic transplantation for 17 consecutive years.
Haploidentical transplantation uses stem cells from a partially matched family donor, while MMUD transplantation uses stem cells from an unrelated donor who is not a full match. These alternative donor options expand access to transplantation for patients who do not have a fully matched donor. Northside physicians have contributed to pioneering research in this field.
For patients who need radiation therapy, Northside Hospital Cancer Institute offers convenient access throughout the region, allowing patients to receive care closer to home while remaining connected to their cancer care team. Radiation oncology centers in Conyers, Snellville and Lawrenceville provide a range of treatment options, including external-beam radiation, which delivers radiation from outside the body, and brachytherapy, which places a radiation source inside or near the area being treated.
Northside's integrated approach to cancer care allows patients to access advanced treatment options while staying connected to a multidisciplinary team of cancer specialists. The Institute’s reach is strengthened through collaborations with oncology partners, including Atlanta Cancer Care, which provides comprehensive medical oncology and hematology services throughout the region.
“Atlanta Cancer Care is proud to be part of a network that continues to expand access to comprehensive cancer care and give patients more options to receive the care they need close to home,” said Dr. Richard Carter, president of Atlanta Cancer Care.
