Legislative Agenda
LOCAL
The Walton County Chamber of Commerce supports:
Infrastructure:
• The truck route/by-pass around the City of Monroe.
• The completion of the truck route/by-pass around Social Circle.
• The one-way paring of Georgia Highway 20 through downtown Loganville to increase business opportunities for Loganville.
• The regional water reservoir project recognizing the importance of an adequate water supply future growth of Walton County.
• The collaboration of the city governments and the Walton County government to construct a county-wide sewer system on the Highway 78 corridor and the Highway 138 corridor in order to promote future economic development success in Walton County.
Healthcare:
• More access to medical resources for Walton County, including Primary Care Physicians, Specialists and other medical needs in order to improve the level of care available to current employers and employees and to aid in the recruitment of new ones.
Education, Job Creation & Workforce Development
• Quality education for Walton County youth, private and public.
• A Certified Workforce for Walton County, and currently working towards this state effort.
• The Opportunity Zone for the City of Monroe and business development in this designated area.
• Opportunity Zones established in other municipalities in Walton County and development without those areas.
Civic – Community:
• The exploration of funding options for construction of a Civic Center to be centrally located in Walton County.
• The beautification of the entry-ways to Walton County, including code enforcement, litter clean-up, signage, etc. because maintaining a clean, attractive community is vital to the continued development of the county.
• A new postal service location for the City of Monroe, including adequate space and parking, existing or new facility.
STATE
The Walton County Chamber of Commerce supports:
• Promotes fair, pro-business job generating tax codes for its businesses.
• A state focus on the critical “quality of life” issues for all Georgians including transportation, educated workforce, access to affordable health care, water management and creating safe work environments.
• A plan to make health care more affordable, especially targeted to small businesses in the State of Georgia.
• Regional transportation funding options if all counties agree on the funding.
FEDERAL
The Walton County Chamber of Commerce supports:
• The concept of the Fairtax initiative and will promote and support such tax reform.
• The effort to research alternative fuels yet supports drilling to keep current fuel affordable.
• A plan for affordable healthcare for business owners.
• A clean energy bill that doesn’t create a de-facto energy tax on American families.
The Walton County Chamber of Commerce opposes:
• A government-run health care plan and employer mandates. We need health reform that cures our problems, not create new ones.
• Any form of the Employee Free Choice Act or legislation that would force binding interest arbitration.
