McDaniel-Tichenor House

Phone: 770-267-5602

The McDaniel-Tichenor House stands as a structural testimony to the changing architectural styles of various periods of Georgia’s and America’s history. Built in 1887 as the retirement home of Georgia Governor Henry McDaniel 1883-1886, the house was home to three generations of the McDaniel-Tichenor Family. The family made significant contributions to the economic growth of Georgia, especially in Walton County. The McDaniel-Tichenor House is used for weddings, showers, parties, seasonal special events and educational programs.

William Harris Homestead

Phone: 770-267-5844

The William Harris Homestead provides a rare glimpse into how the earliest homesteaders in the "new frontier" of northeast Georgia tamed the land and created a legacy for future generations. Visit the Homestead to experience how early settlers carved out a self-sufficient lifestyle in an area that was little more than a wilderness. The grounds feature original 19th century buildings that were raised from the land itself. The William Harris Foundation was established in 2001 as a charitable organization to maintain the property in perpetuity as a heritage educational site. Thousands of school children have visited the site and have found it to be, in their words, "awesome, cool, wow, fun, and the best field trip ever, really."
