Incorporated 2002
This year our organization boasts 157 potential members. If you have not participated in the past, now is a great time to get involved in your community and rekindle some friendships and make new ones. We’re re-thinking strategies and tactics that will facilitate our desire to be an active force in the community. Contributing financially is all well and good, but your time, your brains, and your talents are needed to ensure our success.
Purpose per Articles of Incorporation
The purpose of this corporation is to provide strong leadership to and for the communities of Walton County through education on public issues, community involvement, and civic responsibility, thereby bringing out civic betterment and societal improvements.
We need your help and input to determine the best avenues for success. This group has the experience, resources and knowledge to make an impact. Think back to when your group went through the program. Did you meet new people, network, learn about our community and identify/solve a problem or two?
Ask yourself, what can WE as a group do to make Walton County a better place to work and live? How can we lead? What are the “tough” issues? What societal improvements can we make?
Productivity-wise, we’ve been fortunate to have donated funds (around $16k so far) back to our community. That’s thanks to your dues and fundraisers (April B-B-Q is coming up if you can help sell tickets or cook). We’ve held continuing education seminars, created and sponsored the Youth Leadership program, and promoted voting to name a few projects. The United Way, FISH, Secret Santa, Empty Stocking, Crepe Myrtle Festival, The Alcove, Walton Regional Medical Auxiliary’s Love Light Tree, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Walton County have received cash donations on behalf of you, the alumni. Three fine young Youth Leadership grads have been awarded $500 college scholarships.
This is a powerful group of folks. While we may not all know each other personally, we have something in common. We were chosen for our leadership potential. It’s a new year. Why not come for lunch and give us your input? If you can’t make the meetings, we still need to hear your ideas whether or not you choose to renew or join, so please email or phone any of our board members (contact info on next page) and let us know what YOU think. We believe it’s time to jump in to the deep end of the pool and take advantage of our diversity and experiences. We live and/or work here so let’s be invested.
Thank you in advance for your new or continuing support of the organization with your annual Dues Contribution of $50. Please make your check payable to “Leadership Walton Alumni Association” and indicate your name on the “for” line of your check so we may properly credit your donation.

What is Leadership Walton?
Leadership Walton is a program and organization that develops leaders for our community.
The Leadership Walton program encourages and fosters the development of community leaders by using formal study program. The mission of the program is to broaden the volunteer leadership base, identify and train future leaders for participation in community affairs, provide opportunities for dialogue with existing community leaders, and promote a network of informed, motivated community leaders.
The program is designed as an educational experience that increases all participants’ knowledge and awareness of community institutions and familiarizes them with community leaders and resources. Through this experience the participants become better able to involve themselves in the community and better prepared to lead Walton to a better future. Leadership Walton does not attempt to create a consensus of opinion or to promote any specific issue.
The Walton County Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Leadership Walton organization. It is one of many Leadership organizations established throughout Georgia and the United States.
Who Participates in Leadership Walton?
Those who care about the quality of life in our community and who wish to develop their skills to help shape and direct its future are invited to participate in Leadership Walton.
Participants for each Leadership class are selected to establish a diversified group in terms of race, sex, and occupation. Each Leadership class includes individuals from the business, social service, neighborhood, religious, cultural and education organizations that make up Walton County.
Nominations for this program come from businesses, organizations and individuals. Once nominated, each nominee is asked to complete an application. The Leadership Walton Steering Committee makes final selection of participants.
What Can the Participant Expect?
Each participant will learn about the challenges facing Walton County and about the people and organizations that work to develop and manage the response to these challenges. Participants also learn new leadership skills to use in their own efforts to addresses community issues.
Learning environments include both classroom training and community orientation sessions.
Classroom training sessions include topics on community awareness and on developing individual and community leadership skills.
Community orientation sessions may include presentations on public safety, health, growth, education, regional relationships, planning and quality of life. The format of each session gives participants facts, opinions, and ideas relating to the subject and lets the participants speak directly with county leaders and service providers about problems, solutions, issues and opportunities.
How Much Time Will Be Required?
The Leadership Walton Program consists of one two-day retreat, nine one-day sessions, periodic study group sessions and a graduation ceremony. Meetings and activities are distributed over a nine-month period. Each participant is expected to make a commitment to attend all of the sessions.
What is the Cost?
Tuition for the Leadership Walton class is $475 per person. Tuition is used to defray the cost of guest speakers, transportation, meals, retreat expenses and administrative costs. Each participant is responsible for paying their own tuition or for making arrangements for their tuition to be paid by their employer or sponsoring organization. If needed, the applicant may request special financial arrangements.
